Piano virtuoso Evgeny Kissin — one of the most important contemporary classical performers — will perform in the Nokia Concert Hall on October 28. Among names that create excitement for musical connoisseurs, Evgeny Kissin’s is definitely one of the most certain.

Kissin’s numerous concerts are always performed for a full house. He has performed with world-renowned orchestras under the direction of conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Colin Davis, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Mstislav Rostropovich, Evgeny Svetlanov and Yuri Temirkanov. Evgeny Kissin has fostered an especially warm relationship Vladimir Spivakov. In performing chamber music, Kissin has worked with Yuri Bashmet, Natalia Gutman, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Isaac Stern and others.

What is striking about Evgeny Kissin’s performances is how he completely melds with the music, his thorough concentration and wonderful sense of proportion, distinctive elegance and dignified phrasing. Leading musicians and Kissin’s numerous fans from around the world wonder at the poetry and depth of his performances. Music critics have named him heir to Arthur Rubinstein, Sviatoslav Richter and Vladimir Horowitz.

Evgeny Kissin is a laureate of the Shostakovich, Benedetti Michelangeli and Karajan prizes. In May of 2001 Kissin was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music, in June of 2005 he became an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music in London, and in 2009 he became an honorary professor of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 2010 Evgeny Kissin won a prestigious Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (with Orchestra).

Kissin works with classical record labels Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classical and EMI. Christopher Nupen, a known English director, made a documentary about him titled, “Evgeny Kissin: The Gift of Music”.

Tallinn’s concert programme will include, to the joy of piano lovers, Chopin’s four ballades, Schumann’s Fantasiestücke (Op. 12) and Toccata.
