On May 25 in Nokia Concert Hall, the composer of beautiful music, consummate pianist, conductor and singer Michel Legrand, will take the stage with the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Mr Legrand will be accompanied by his wife, harpist Catherine Michel.

The concert is expected to be a truly memorable event. A composer, jazz and classical piano virtuoso, arranger and conductor, the French-born Michel Legrand has composed more than 200 film soundtracks and several musicals and has recorded over a hundred albums. He has won 3 Oscars and 5 Grammys in the Best Music category and worked with Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour, Barbra Streisand and Liza Minnelli. At the age of 20 Legrand founded his own orchestra. It was then that he started composing his first songs and music for Roland Petit Ballet. When he was 23, his first album I Love Paris was released to become one of the best-selling instrumental albums.

Legrand became world-famous in the mid-1960s when he composed soundtracks for two Jacques Demy's films, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort. The music of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg has had the biggest number of interpretations, and all the female parts in the film were sung by Legrand’s sister.

Legrand is a real idol for lovers and dreamers. This modern composer is no stranger to anything in music. His high professionalism takes pop music to a serious level while making large symphonic forms easier to understand.

In France, 2010 has been declared the year of Michel Legrand in honour of his 50-year musical career. Estonia's best Steinway & Sons grand piano will be delivered to Nokia Concert Hall especially for the great maestro.

The Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra will perform in Tallinn — not for the first time. Audiences love the orchestra for their unique performance style and atmosphere created at every concert. The orchestra is particularly noted for the deep interpretive insight, beauty and dynamics, attention to fine nuances, great artistic impression and intelligence.

Since the orchestra was founded, outstanding violinist and conductor Vladimir Spivakov has been its artistic director, principal conductor and soloist. It is thanks to maestro Spivakov and his 30 years of work with the orchestra that the Moscow Virtuosi belong to the world's best chamber orchestras noted for their excellent reputation.
